According to BuLi News, Nico Schlotterbeck was named Borussia Dortmund's Bundesliga player of the season for 2025-26 after receiving five votes from its team of writers.
After two years of relative instability, Dortmund steadied under Niko Kovač and secured second place with room to spare. They trimmed the gap to Bayern Munich to six points before it widened with 12 games left, shifting focus to Champions League qualification.
The campaign rested on a robust defence marshalled by Schlotterbeck. Dortmund lost only five league matches, twice to Bayern, with the other three in the final six rounds. He posted 88.51% passing, ranked 24th for 293 duels won, and covered 292.7 kilometres.
He also offered a consistent threat from set pieces, scoring five goals, three from corners and free-kicks. Dortmund have extended his contract, which will be a relief ahead of next year.
His standout display came on Matchday 17 in a 3-0 win over Werder Bremen. After 11 minutes he outmuscled Jens Stage to head in Julian Ryerson's corner.
With around 15 minutes remaining, Marcel Sabitzer and Serhou Guirassy added late goals to seal it. In stoppage time Schlotterbeck almost set up Guirassy, only for Backhaus to save. He won 100% of his tackles, completed 87% of his passes and made two key passes.
Julian Ryerson and Guirassy each received two votes. Ryerson's 15 assists ranked second in the league, while Guirassy finished third in the Torjägerkanone race with 17 goals. Felix Nmecha earned one nomination for his midfield work.
