Nigeria’s players have threatened to boycott Thursday’s training and possibly their trip to Marrakech for Saturday’s AFCON quarter-final against Algeria, scheduled for 17:00.
L'Équipe reports that the stand-off concerns bonuses promised before the tournament, with Victor Osimhen and team-mates demanding payment, and that refusal to travel from Fez to Marrakech has been discussed.
On the pitch, Nigeria topped Group C after three wins, beating Tanzania 2-1, Tunisia 3-2 and Uganda 3-1, then thrashed Mozambique 4-0 in the last 16.
Runners-up at the previous edition, they lost 2-1 to hosts Ivory Coast in early 2024.
There is hope a resolution will be reached before Saturday. A similar dispute arose in November 2025, when the Super Eagles skipped a session two days before facing Gabon in the African World Cup play-off semi-finals, and they prevailed on that occasion.
