FC Bayern’s 3-2 win at Union Berlin was a real tour de force for the Munich team. While the Bavarians are celebrating, Rani Khedira criticizes the Bayern players for their unfair behaviour.
While Munich were celebrating their progress to the DFB Cup quarter-finals, Union captain Rani Khedira made clear accusations of fair play. After the final whistle, the 30-year-old sharply criticized the record champions‘ behaviour.
„When you play an opponent like that and they play for time from the 45th minute onwards, some of which is not penalized, then it’s respect enough,“ said Khedira on Sky. When asked, he even confirmed his assessment once again unequivocally: „Yes, from the 45th minute onwards.“

Khedira’s main point of criticism: the substitution of Aleksandar Pavlovic. The Bayern youngster, who limped off shortly after the restart, initially remained standing before sitting down on the pitch after an interruption and being substituted. However, Khedira did not accuse FCB of acting, but of tactical behaviour: „Pavlovic is of course injured – I wish him all the best. But he has two minutes to lie down. (…) That’s how he stalls for time to be able to change. That’s not fair play, but I don’t blame the boy.“
Several interruptions shortly before the end of the match – typical side effects of a cup fight – also caused displeasure among the Berliners. Manuel Neuer also saw a yellow card for time-wasting. The fact that the record champions of all teams were targeted was hardly surprising given the heated final phase.
In sporting terms, however, it remains to be said that Bayern held on to their lead – once again in a season in which Kompany’s team often wins close games. For Union, on the other hand, frustration at missing out on the cup sensation prevailed.
An accusation that sticks in the mind – and which is likely to add extra spice to the second leg in the Bundesliga.
