Manchester United did the right thing by offloading Andre Onana on loan to Trabzonspor, given his performances since he joined the club.

Erik ten Hag was the one who pushed for his signing, but his consistent mistakes in both the Premier League and in Europe have cost the club big time.

The new season has seen the same old Onana, with the 29-year-old at fault as the Red Devils crashed out of the EFL Cup to League Two side Grimsby Town.

Not only his on-field displays, but his desire for a new contract has not impressed the United hierarchy, neither did his fitness when he returned to Carrington for pre-season.

No way back for Onana

Altay Bayindir has been preferred in goal in the league thus far, while Senne Lammens’ deadline day arrival meant the ex-Ajax ace effectively became third-choice.

As a result, he agreed to move to Turkiye on loan, and INEOS will be hoping he can regain some form out there.

As per Football Insider, Amorim does not see him as part of his future plans even if he performs admirably out on loan, and he has made that abundantly clear to the co-owners, who will be looking to sell him to the highest bidder.

And for that to happen, Andre Onana needs to up his game at the Papara Park, and that will ensure he does not return to Manchester and be part of yet another bomb squad.

INEOS hoping to sell him to highest bidder

“Manchester United are hoping that Andre Onana can perform on loan at Trabzonspor so they can sell him off for a sizeable fee next summer, sources have told Football Insider.

“Sources say that after the addition of Lammens, there is effectively no way back for Onana at United despite his contract running until 2028.

“Ruben Amorim will not want a similar situation to this summer, where he had a ‘bomb squad’ training alone as they searched for moves away.”

United had signed the Cameroon international for an initial £43.8 million in 2023, and hopefully, the goalie can put himself up on the shop window with decent displays for his new club.
