Norwich City's FLW fan pundit shares their thoughts on the club's links to Huddersfield Town's Jay Smith-Sway

It began as a chaotic season for Norwich City, who found themselves in choppy waters to begin with, but Philippe Clement has since steadied the ship and guided the Canaries to much smoother sailing, and will almost certainly be given huge leeway in the summer transfer window as a result.

Indeed, when Liam Manning took charge at Carrow Road at the beginning of the season, Norwich fans were rightfully optimistic about the season ahead, with their new boss having just guided Bristol City to a top-six finish in the second tier for the first time in 17 years.

However, his time at the helm was a total disaster, to say the least, and he would eventually be succeeded by former Rangers and Monaco boss Philippe Clement after 19 games in all competitions, with the club in the unfamiliar position of the relegation zone.

Clement immediately stamped his authority on the Canaries squad and quickly turned their form around, with January additions such as Mohamed Toure and Ali Ahmed playing crucial roles in their turnaround.

With this success, Clement will surely be given the opportunity to make use of the transfer window again this summer, and the club have already been linked with a player that they may view as following in the footsteps of Kellen Fisher.

Huddersfield Town youngster Jay Smith-Sway has been linked with a switch to Norwich this summer, as per FootballInsider, with the versatile 19-year-old attracting interest from the second tier.

Middlesbrough have also been touted with a move for Smith-Sway, who was most recently playing on loan for Hartlepool Town in the fifth tier, where he made five league appearances.

His contract in West Yorkshire is due to expire this summer, and Norwich are looking to take advantage of that by offering him a chance to make the move to Norfolk this summer and follow a similar path to Fisher, who joined from Bromley in 2023 after having impressed in the National League.

Football League World's Norwich fan pundit, Zeke, has shared their thoughts on the club's links to Smith-Sway and whether he could have a similar impact at Carrow Road that someone like Fisher has had previously.

Zeke said: "I obviously don't know anything about this guy. But I didn't know anything about Makama, I didn't know anything about Fisher. So these are players from lower leagues that have the potential to kick on. So I think it's only a positive.

"I think we should be looking at players in the lower leagues to try and grab a bargain because they are going to be a lot more used to England and the style of play and that sort of thing. So I think it is a real positive.

"It sort of depends, because we need some more, I'd say, experience in the league, in the higher up leagues, more like Championship level, I'd say, so that we are ready next year rather than signing too many really young players who will take a few seasons to bed in. But who knows? I think if Clement likes him, then I like him."

Philippe Clement can complete similar Kellen Fisher trick at Norwich City by signing Jay Smith-Sway from Huddersfield Town

In his brief time in charge of Norwich, Clement has already won the bulk of the fanbase over from his ability to turn the team's form completely around, and the additions of both Toure and Ahmed made under his watch have only helped his case.

This summer window will be a big one for the Canaries, and you would expect the Belgian to be backed heavily after his displays last season.

Smith-Sway would cost nothing, and his addition could well prove to be a bargain in years to come, similarly to that of Fisher, who arrived at Carrow Road as a relative unknown previously.

Having yet to make a senior league appearance for Huddersfield, the 19-year-old could well be on the lookout for more first-team opportunities, and Norwich will be able to point to the case of Fisher as an example of this.

Where Smith-Sway's next destination will be remains to be seen, with Middlesbrough on the hunt too, as Norwich should look to get this deal over the line as soon as possible.
