The rivalry between the two is fierce in that part of the country, and it’s the Tractor Boys who have the bragging rights at the moment, as they won the first meeting between the two back in October and sit higher in the league.

However, with a game at Carrow Road looming, in-form Norwich know they can put a major dent in Ipswich’s top two hopes, something which would only increase Philippe Clement’s popularity among the Canaries’ faithful.

Of course, the nature of the rivalry between Ipswich and Norwich isn’t just restricted to the two games a season.

For a Norwich fan, Ipswich losing a game would bring a smile to your face, and it obviously works the other way as well.

As is the case with most rivalries, it’s always about trying to get one over the enemy, so with Ipswich in the news following a visit from Reform politician Nigel Farage, the Canaries were never going to let it slide.

The Tractor Boys have come in for criticism after Farage took several photos around Portman Road, including one of him holding up a shirt with his name on the back, which he shared on social media.

It has been reported that Farage wasn’t invited by the Suffolk outfit, with the Reform party booking a private tour of the stadium.

Nevertheless, it prompted a message from Norwich on social media, as they made reference to their own stadium tours.

Book a stadium tour of Carrow Road - new dates now available. Terms and conditions will most definitely apply,” along with a grimacing face.

That even brought a response from Farage, who joked that he would ‘see you next week’ to the Canaries.

Norwich vs Ipswich fixture could be a huge fixture in the promotion battle

Obviously, politics are divisive, and there will be some that are unhappy that Farage was allowed to take so many photos around Portman Road and to use the venue for his own agenda.

But, this is a light-hearted exchange, and Norwich fans will love the fact they have poked fun at their rivals.

With the two clubs set to meet on April 11th, things are bubbling away nicely, and it looks set to be a massive game for both clubs.

A top six finish may just be beyond Norwich, but their remarkable form under Clement means they won’t give up, and they are going to go into the clash with real confidence.

Even if they can’t make the top six, the chance to ruin Ipswich’s promotion dream will appeal to Norwich supporters, and they will certainly let the players know that.

Meanwhile, Ipswich are in a three-way battle for the second automatic promotion spot, and they know that any slip-up could be decisive as we head into the run-in.
