One place off the bottom of the table and with five straight defeats under his belt, few other managers in the EFL are under the same amount of pressure as the Norwich City manager Liam Manning.

Calls for his dismissal just a quarter of the way into the season are already reaching a crescendo, and results need to turn around and quickly, if he's to have any chance of holding onto his job throughout November.

There was an eerie two-day silence from the club's X account, but it now seems that there is going to be communication from the club today, and this has provoked a reaction from supporters who are unhappy with the club's tepid start to the season.

Liam Manning will be holding a press conference at 2pm, and Norwich supporters are angry

Journalist Connor Southwell has reported on the social media platform X that Liam Manning is to hold a press conference at 2pm on Friday, and this has prompted quite a response from Norwich supporters. But not everybody wants to blame the manager, and that broader recruitment issues could have been the big problem at Carrow Road over the course of the summer.

But this seems to be a minority opinion, with the overwhelming majority of replies indicate that Canaries fans are angry at the moment.

Others are looking forward to their next match against Hull City, with concerns that things might turn ugly, should things follow the course they've been on over the last few weeks.

The most common viewpoint, though, is a degree of disbelief that the club have found themselves in this position in the first place, and that Manning remains in his position, given the start to the season that his team has had.

And some fans have simply been left speechless by what they've seen this season.

Liam Manning is already rapidly running out of road at Norwich City

If there's one person who probably won't want to read the replies to Connor Southwell's tweet, it'll be Liam Manning himself. This has been a dismal start to the season for his Norwich City team, and it's already clear that he's running out of road, should he want to turn things around at Carrow Road.

The harshness of the reaction from Norwich supporters may in part be on account of one of the statistical standouts of their team's season so far. Of the twelve League games they've played this season, five of them have been home matches, and they've lost all five. That home fans have only seen loss after loss so far this season may be distorting their view of the team.

That, however, is a less than convincing argument when the away form with which they started the new season has also drastically tailed off. The Canaries won their first two away matches of the season at Portsmouth and Blackburn, and that provided the new manager with some degree of cover.

But the last of those League wins came on the 30th August, meaning that it's now been two months since they won a match, whether home or away, and with their recent run of consecutive defeats having also included a comprehensive derby defeat at Ipswich, it's very clear that it hasn't taken long for pre-season optimism to completely vanish.

This season was supposed to be different. Liam Manning took Bristol City into the Championship play-offs at the end of the 2024-25 season, and he's a Norwich boy who started his ascent towards the professional game in their academy system. On the surface, it looked like an appointment which worked for both the head and the heart, but things simply aren't working out that way.

And the response of Norwich supporters indicates clearly that many of them believe the problems at the club to be greater than the head coach alone. Since last getting relegated from the Premier League in 2022, Norwich have finished 13th twice, and those three years feel like a waste of the competitive advantage they were given through parachute payments. Those three years are now up, and Norwich are just another Championship club.
