Eintracht Frankfurt were left frustrated after a 2-1 defeat at Mainz 05, a setback that dents their push for Europe.

According to BuLi News, Jonathan Burkardt said returning to his former club was warm, but the contest did not unfold as he had imagined.

The forward accepted Frankfurt are now behind the European places and called the display frustrating, noting they conceded too many openings and fashioned too few, so a loss felt deserved.

He added they produced more than against Heidenheim last week, yet it still fell short, and the upcoming international break could help while they assess improvements.

Scorer Nathaniel Brown shared the mood, describing this as one of those phases in football, saying he is not exactly sure why it is happening and that they must keep working for consistency.

After a knock, he said he remains in pain but hopes it is nothing serious, and he will do everything he can to be available for Germany.

Brown said he was well placed for his equaliser and finished cleanly, but it counted for little as Frankfurt slipped to another costly reverse, leaving a clear need to respond after the break.
