Chelsea have just been beaten 3-0 by Everton, and fans are really despairing about what’s happened to their team.
Liam Rosenior has just been asked post-game about the incredible soft opening goal. Everton just passed right through the middle of Chelsea’s team, but the manager denied it was anything to do with his setup:
“When you watch the goal back, it’s not a tactical thing. We didn’t go man-for-man today. We played 4-4-2. It’s a moment of switching off. I want to protect my players always, and I take responsibility in that lapse of concentration but that’s happened too many times recently.”
Ok, so if it’s not a tactical thing, it must be a lack of application from the players then?
“For me, it’s not a lack of effort or belief in the team. When you’re on a run of defeats we’re on, those things get levelled at you but I don’t think that’s the problem at the moment.”
Oh. Well if it’s not the tactics, and it’s not the effort, and it’s not the quality of the players, then what is it? He keeps saying he doesn’t want to blame the players, then blames the players.
Rosenior also blamed “mistakes” for the goals Chelsea were conceding – but we’re going to need a bit more than that.
