Ansu Fati’s expected departure from Barcelona has hit an unexpected complication.
For weeks, the assumption was that the Spanish forward’s move to AS Monaco was virtually complete, with only formalities remaining before the transfer could be officially announced.
However, fresh comments from the player’s father suggest the operation is not as advanced as many believed.
Speaking to Winwin (h/t SPORT), Bori Fati revealed that negotiations are still ongoing and insisted that several important details remain unresolved between the parties involved.
Despite widespread reports suggesting the deal had already been completed, Bori Fati has moved to clarify the situation.
Addressing the speculation surrounding his son’s future, he explained that negotiations are still active and that neither Monaco nor Barcelona have finalised all the conditions required to close the transfer.

“What has been said about the deal being done is not true. It hasn’t been finalised yet because there are still outstanding issues.
“We must wait for the agent, Jorge Mendes, who is currently there talking to the Monaco board, and we are waiting to hear what Barça has to say in these final negotiations.”
He also suggested that the coming days will be decisive. Providing further context, he added,
“The first thing is what Barça has to say. We haven’t reached 30 June yet and, for now, we’re still tied to Monaco.
“Next week there will be more clarity on this whole matter. Everything you’re hearing isn’t true because, as of now, we haven’t signed anything.
“There are many clubs interested in Ansu at the moment, but we want to stay at Monaco.”

The comments indicate that while Monaco remain the preferred destination, there is still work to be done before the transfer can be considered fully completed.
Bori Fati also revealed that neither Hansi Flick nor sporting director Deco have directly spoken to the player regarding his future.
“Neither Flick nor Deco have spoken to Ansu at all. Deco’s conversation will be solely with Jorge Mendes when he returns from his holiday in Brazil. We’ll try to sort everything out next week.”
Furthermore, Bori Fati also made it clear that a return to Barcelona’s first-team plans is no longer being considered.
“No, Ansu won’t be staying at Barcelona. That’s for sure. Let’s see if everything gets sorted out quickly,” he concluded.
