Five Inter Milan players have come under criticism for failing to replicate their form from last season’s Serie A title win.
Today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, single out Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Hakan Calhanoglu, Lautaro Martinez, Federico Dimarco, and Alessandro Bastoni.
Inter Milan have never quite managed to reproduce last season’s rampant form in Serie A.
There have certainly been individual statement performances. And the overall level of the Nerazzurri’s play has largely been high.
But a truly consistent run of results and performances has been lacking.
And in the view of the Gazzetta, that hasn’t just been the case on a team level. There have also been a few individuals who haven’t done enough compared to last season.
In the view of the Gazzetta, two of Inter’s starting midfield trio have dropped off.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s performances have been more erratic than last season’s had been.

Then, midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu had been even more of a pillar of last campaign’s midfield.
However, fitness concerns have seemingly prevented the Turk from ever really showing his best.
Then, Inter captain Lautaro Martinez has run far too hot and cold this season.
Last season, the captain’s goals had been part of the foundation of Inter’s Serie A title win.
