Nottingham Forest’s hierarchy will be looking closely at ‘the manner of the performance’ at Newcastle United on Sunday as Ange Postecoglou’s position as manager comes under the scanner.

Forest turned to Postecoglou to succeed Nuno Espirito Santo, who has since become the West Ham United manager, in September.

The Australian’s start to life at Nottingham Forest though has not gone well, with two draws and four defeats from his first six games in charge.

His appointment drew instant criticism in some quarters, with one former Premier League star stating Nottingham Forest had not really thought it through.

Now there is increased pressure on Postecoglou, though he retains the support of the hierarchy at the club, according to the BBC.

Sunday’s clash at Newcastle is believed to now be hugely important for Postecoglou’s future, but it is not just the result that the club will be looking at.

Indeed, it is also ‘the manner of the performance’ that will be analysed and it is suggested to be just as important as the result.

There may be an acceptance that facing Newcastle away from home is one of the tougher assignments in the Premier League.

Eddie Howe’s side cruised to a 4-0 win away at Belgian outfit Union SG in the Champions League earlier this week, showing their power.

They have also regularly got the better of Nottingham Forest in recent meetings between the two clubs.

Last term, Newcastle beat Nottingham Forest both home and away, despite the Tricky Trees’ good season as a whole.

Newcastle have won eight of the last nine league meetings between the two sides at St James’ Park, though Nottingham Forest did win at the ground in 2023, triumphing 3-1.
