Nottingham Forest are closing in on appointing Vitor Pereira as their new head coach after sacking Sean Dyche.

According to Nottingham Post, talks have accelerated and negotiations are in their final phase, with the 57-year-old expected to sign a deal at the City Ground until 2027.

The Portuguese is expected to become Forest’s fourth manager of the season. Dyche was dismissed on Wednesday evening after a 0-0 draw with Wolverhampton Wanderers, while Nuno Espirito Santo and Ange Postecoglou were also removed earlier in the campaign.

Pereira will take charge of a side sitting perilously above the relegation zone with 12 games left. Forest hold a three-point cushion over 18th-placed West Ham United, and Nuno’s Hammers have been in good form.

He steered Wolves to safety last term but has been out of work since being sacked by the West Midlands club in November. Pereira knows owner Evangelos Marinakis from his 2015 spell at Olympiacos, where he secured a league and cup double.

His CV includes Al Shabab, Flamengo, Corinthians, 1860 Munich, Al Ahli and Porto, plus two spells at Fenerbahce.

Forest visit Istanbul next Thursday for the first leg of their Europa League play-off, then host Fenerbahce a week later. Pereira’s first Premier League match in the dugout will be at home to Liverpool on Sunday week, 22 February. Forest confirmed Dyche’s exit and thanked him and his staff, adding there would be no further comment.
