Angus Gunn and Omari Hutchinson's moves to the City Ground haven't gone to plan so far.
Nottingham Forest are certainly one club making headlines at present, albeit for controversial decision-making rather than a continuation of impressive performances.
The East Midlands side have made plenty of good and bad waves ever since ending their spell in the Championship through a Wembley success over Huddersfield Town in May 2022, which culminated in a surprise first venture into European competition in a generation after last season's seventh-place finish under Nuno Espírito Santo.
However, in the weeks and months that have followed, it looks increasingly unlikely that the 'Tricky Trees' are to build on such strong relative success in any way, shape or form, with the Portuguese boss becoming the latest sack victim of Evangelos Marinakis' eventful period as owner, whilst ex-Spurs head coach Ange Postecoglou is already under intense pressure after the most disastrous of starts to his subsequent reign.
It wasn't too long ago that Forest found themselves competing against the likes of Norwich City and Ipswich Town for a return to the Premier League either, albeit the bitter East Anglian rivals' fortunes on that front have certainly varied over the course of the past two decades.
Many believe that the model incorporated by Kieran McKenna and Mark Ashton at Portman Road could, if kept sustainable, could lead the Tractor Boys down a similar path to that of Forest, Newcastle United and Aston Villa - all of whom have competed in Europe less than 10 years after winning promotion out of the Championship.
Yet at present, whilst those in Suffolk and Norfolk fail to see eye-to-eye on many things, they will certainly feel that two transfer movements somewhat involving each of their clubs and Forest have fallen flat very quickly.
Omari Hutchinson has been viewed as one of English football's best up-and-coming talents in recent seasons, largely down to his stellar progression when on loan, and after signing permanently, with Ipswich.
The ex-Arsenal and Chelsea figure first became a household name for his contributions which helped Town and McKenna's high-energy and quality forward line deliver a bucket-load of goals - 92 to be precise - en route to a second successive promotion during 2023/24.
Hutchinson excelled in such a front-footed environment, scoring 10 times and posting six assists, with an exceptional individual performance against Hull City at the MKM Stadium, in particular, catching the eye of many.
It was no surprise when a club-record £18m investment was made for the England youth international last summer, as he sampled regular football in the Premier League for the first time, with many intrigued to see how he and his teammates would fare.
Unfortunately for Town and the 21-year-old, their stay in the top-flight would be short-lived and frustrating. However, that doesn't take away from some individual brilliance that the playmaker provided along the way, such as a stunning curling effort against Manchester United at Portman Road.
Hutchinson has since tarnished his legacy with Blues supporters somewhat after refusing to play in their EFL Cup defeat at Bromley in August, just days before completing another club-record £37.5m move to the East Midlands.
It's still early days for the Under-21 European Championship winner in Nottingham. However, if his first weeks are anything to go by, he may live to regret his decision.
The Redhill-born figure has only played 52 minutes of league action, been omitted from Forest's UEFA Europa League squad, with his only start and goal contribution coming in the dramatic 3-2 EFL Cup defeat to Swansea City last month.
However, he won't be on his own in potentially regretting a summer move.
That comes in the form of experienced goalkeeper Angus Gunn, who joined on a free transfer in the summer after his contract expired at Ipswich's local rivals, Norwich.
The hometown shot-stopper had endured a mixed permanent spell at Carrow Road after joining from Southampton in 2021, having previously excelled on loan from Manchester City in the 2017/18 campaign under Daniel Farke.
Despite suffering relegation from the Premier League in 2022, the Scotland international was always viewed as a 'safe pair of hands', as evidenced with an accumulation of 12 shutouts as the Canaries made the play-off semi-finals in 2023/24 under David Wagner.
However, it's safe to say that the past year or so hasn't gone how the 29-year-old would've envisaged.
Off the back of an underwhelming performance at UEFA Euro 2024 with Scotland - during which seven goals were conceded in three games - Gunn came under immense scrutiny for a below-par run of performances in East Anglia during last season as his contract at Carrow Road drew to a close.
This was somewhat backed up by the fact he was, statistically, the second-worst performing goalkeeper in the Championship when it came to goal prevention, as Norwich conceded a total of 68 goals last term in a 13th-place finish.
Much to the surprise of most, it was then confirmed in August that he'd joined Forest on a free transfer. Yet, after just two months, his career at the City Ground is already under serious jeopardy after being left out of the Europa League squad, whilst failing to make a competitive appearance behind Matz Sels and John Victor.
As such, Gunn is said to be viewing a January exit in order to preserve his status as Steve Clarke's 'number one', meaning he may regret not signing an extension with Norwich or, at least, moving to a club where regular football is a guarantee.
