New Forest manager has not won a game since taking over last month
Ange Postecoglou looks set to remain in-post at Nottingham Forest despite a dismal start to his reign at the City Ground.
The former Tottenham boss took over from Nuno Espirito Santo last month, and he has not won any of his seven games at the helm so far.
Most recently, Forest were beaten comfortably 2-0 by Newcastle at St James’ Park, to follow a 3-2 home defeat by Midtjylland in the Europa League, where Forest fans chanted ‘You’re getting sacked in the morning’ against their head coach.
Postecoglou’s first game in charge came away at Arsenal, where Forest were comprehensively overcome 3-0, and a 3-2 loss to Championship side Swansea in the League Cup followed shortly after.
Draws with Burnley and Real Betis preceded a 1-0 defeat by Sunderland at the City Ground, with Omar Alderete notching the winner.
Reports claim that Evangelos Marinakis, the Forest owner, is using the current international break to assess the Australian’s position, and the Greek is a fan of Fulham manager Marco Silva, who worked under Marinakis’ ownership at Olympiacos.
However, any move for Silva would come at a substantial cost, with Fulham due a sizeable compensation fee should Forest look to replace Postecoglou with the Portuguese.
It is believed that Postecoglou will remain in position beyond the international break, with Forest’s next game against Chelsea.
A reason for that could be the lack of managers available to Marinakis at present, with Forest reportedly in the market for a head coach with experience in a top-five European league, as well as a background in continental competition.
Furthermore, Marinakis has never throughout his Forest tenure moved for a manager that is under contract elsewhere, instead seeking those that are out of work and that meet his criteria.
As such, that could buy Postecoglou time, as he prepares his side for the visits of Chelsea and Porto next in the Premier League and Europa League, before they travel to the Dorset coast to take on in-form Bournemouth.
