Nottingham Forest claimed a vital away win in the capital, Igor Jesus and Taiwo Awoniyi scoring in a 2-0 success at Brentford.
According to Nottingham Post, Sean Dyche’s side arrived under pressure, their cushion above the drop trimmed to two points after West Ham United beat Sunderland on Saturday. They had also lost 1-0 at Braga in the Europa League on Thursday.
Forest started brightly and struck on 12 minutes. Ola Aina worked space on the right and picked out Jesus, who chested, spun and fired in at the near post.
Ibrahim Sangare went close from the edge of the box before the 20-minute mark. Brentford rallied, Matz Sels stood tall to deny Dango Ouattara five minutes before the break, then tipped Yehor Yarmoliuk’s cross over as the hosts took momentum into half-time.
The pattern continued after the restart with the home side on top and Forest short of possession. After defending for much of the half, Morgan Gibbs-White released substitute Awoniyi, who powered clear and drilled low past Caoimhin Kelleher from a tight angle with 10 minutes left.
Player ratings reflected the result, with Sels, Nikola Milenkovic, Murillo, Neco Williams, Sangare and Elliot Anderson all given 8.5. Gibbs-White scored 8, Jesus 8 and Awoniyi 8, while Nicolas Dominguez earned 7.5, Callum Hudson-Odoi 7 and Ola Aina 6. Omari Hutchinson, Morato and Awoniyi came off the bench to help see it out, Hutchinson and Morato rated 7.
