Nottingham Forest suffered a 3-1 defeat at Aston Villa as goalkeeper John Victor made a costly error, then departed injured in tears.
Villa struck either side of half-time through Ollie Watkins and John McGinn. Just over 10 minutes before Victor’s mishap, Morgan Gibbs-White halved the deficit.
Soon after, Victor raced from his line but McGinn reached the ball first, rounded him and scored. The Brazilian immediately signalled he was hurt, received treatment, then went down again and was replaced by Matz Sels.
Sean Dyche restored Ola Aina to the starting XI after several months out, while Callum Hudson-Odoi missed out with a knock. Sels had only recently returned to fitness but remained on the bench with Victor in form.
“John has done really well in the two games, to be fair. Matz has only had four days of training.” He Told Nottinghamshire Live.
“He has a bad finger he was playing through and a groin problem, so we have to be careful with that. But John has earned the right for this one, that’s for sure, with two very strong performances.”
Sels now looks set to reclaim his place between the sticks.
