Nottingham Forest are considering a late winter swoop for Everton attacker Dwight McNeil, according to Sky Sports News’ Rob Dorsett.
Everton are unlikely to allow one of their forwards to leave without a replacement in place, having lost Jack Grealish for the rest of the season.
Forest, owned by billionaire businessman Evangelos Marinakis, are desperate to bolster their attack and could look to test the Toffees’ resolve.
McNeil has made 17 appearances across all competitions for Everton this season, but has only started seven times in the Premier League.
Manager Sean Dyche made the Toffees star a top player at Burnley, and he is keen to work with him again.
Forest could look to offer Everton a tempting deal to lure McNeil away, and it will be intriguing to see how things develop in the coming hours.
The 26-year-old is out of contract in 2027, and selling him now could appeal to Everton.
However, they will need to sign a replacement first, and there is very little time left in the transfer window to complete a new deal.
Everton have not signed any players, but have recalled Harrison Armstrong from his loan spell at Preston North End.
None of their senior players have left, but that could change before the deadline if manager David Moyes decides to sanction any late sales.
Everton are 10th in the Premier League table after 23 games, but they are just five points adrift of fourth-placed Manchester United. Securing a place in Europe next season is a feasible target.
