Now at Remo, striker reveals he nearly joined Corinthians in 2023

Last week, forward Alef Manga, currently at Remo, gave an interview to the program Resenha ESPN on ESPN Brasil, where he revealed that he was close to becoming a Corinthians player, emphasizing his long-held desire to wear the Corinthians jersey.

“Actually, there were three (teams) that were close, and the closest was Corinthians. It was between Grêmio, São Paulo, and Corinthians. The one that was most advanced was Corinthians. Of course, it is my desire, I have always said in other interviews that I dream of playing for Corinthians,” he said.

However, the negotiation did not have a positive outcome because, in August 2023, the athlete was punished by the Supreme Court of Sports Justice (STJD) after being involved in a match-fixing scheme in football games – Operation Maximum Penalty. Alef Manga was sidelined for a year after being reported by the body, which found that the player intentionally received a yellow card in the match between Coritiba and América-MG, during the 2022 Brasileirão.

“It was close, but after all this happened, things fell through,” he added. Alef Manga gained national attention in 2021, after performing well in that year's Carioca Championship playing for Volta Redonda. The player served the mentioned punishment and returned to play in October 2024 and, since then, has played for Coritiba, Avaí, and Remo, scoring five goals and providing two assists in 37 matches.
