Nu Stadium set for historic opener as Inter Miami homegrowns relish the moment | OneFootball

Inter Miami held their maiden training session on the pristine Bermudagrass at Nu Stadium on Thursday, ahead of Saturday’s historic opener against Austin FC at 7:30 p.m. ET on Apple TV. According to Inter Miami, it was the first time the first team stepped onto the pitch at their new state-of-the-art home.

For several academy graduates, the occasion marked the realisation of a long-held dream to represent their hometown club each week in the heart of Miami.

Managing owner Jorge Mas called it a dream come true, saying the stadium sprang from a wish to build a top-class venue in his hometown. He said he thinks Saturday will bring a fantastic atmosphere and wants it to be an experience everyone enjoys.

Head coach Javier Mascherano praised a top-notch stadium, an excellent playing surface and impressive team facilities. He said it is time to enjoy the new home and aims to inaugurate it in the best way, with a victory.

Defender Noah Allen described an incredible first step onto the turf and enjoyed picturing the stands packed. Midfielder Santi Morales said finally seeing the stadium become reality struck him most and that it is time to enjoy it.

Midfielder Alex Shaw reflected on an academy journey that made walking into the dressing room with team-mates feel special, saying a vision from childhood has come to fruition. Midfielder David Ruiz welcomed a stadium in the heart of Miami, noting proximity should help create a great matchday atmosphere.

Attacker Daniel Pinter called the moment surreal after graduating from the academy with peers, adding they always imagined a home in Miami and that the first time inside felt crazy.
