Lazio left-back Nuno Tavares is attracting interest from Italy and beyond, jeopardizing his stay at Formello.
The 26-year-old has had his highs and lows since joining the Biancocelesti in the summer of 2024. The Portuguese international endured a rough campaign under Maurizio Sarri, but the latter’s stiff approach has at least forced the full-back to improve his defensive skills.
But while Gennaro Gattuso is excited to reunite with his former Olympique Marseille player, Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla names three clubs that are planning to sway Tavares away from the Italian capital.
The source begins by mentioning Besiktas, who have been on the left-back’s trail for quite some time. The Turkish giants’ interest has only been amplified by Vincenzo Italiano’s appointment. However, a move to Istanbul hasn’t truly enticed the Lisbon native.
On the other hand, Porto could represent a more exciting destination for Tavares, who would have the opportunity to return to Portugal for the first time since leaving Benfica in 2021. The Dragao’s Italian manager, Francesco Farioli, is said to be an admirer of the left-back. Finally, Pedulla mentions interest from Fiorentina, but he believes that Lazio would prefer to sell Tavares abroad.
While Claudio Lotito and Co. have set a higher price tag, the journalist believes €20 million could prove sufficient. The full-back’s former employers, Arsenal, would collect around €7 million thanks to a 35% sell-on fee.
If Tavares ends up leaving Lazio, Gattuso would still have two left-backs at his disposal in Luca Pellegrini and Alfonso Pedraza, who will complete a free transfer from Villarreal in the coming days.
