NYCFC vs Club Puebla: How to watch, time, and more as the Leagues Cup begins | OneFootball

On Tuesday, New York City FC will finally begin the Leagues Cup when the Boys in Blue take on Club Puebla from Liga MX.  As a reminder, the tournament has changed this season; teams will face the opposite league during the first round.  The goal will be to get as many points as possible, for NYCFC will be ranked in the standings against other Major League Soccer teams.  As such, only the top four teams in each league will move on, which is a lot fewer than two teams per group of three.

So, the Bronx side will have a tough task ahead of them when they play all three matches.  Based on this season, one might feel moving on will not happen since four of the 18 MLS teams will do so.  But fans will expect the players to try their best.  Plus, anything can happen in the beautiful game.

NYCFC is also entering Phase One of the Leagues Cup with confidence.  The team recently ended a four-game road trip by going 2-1-1 after the crazy 4-3 win against FC Dallas.  The game, including the entire road trip, was not perfect or pretty.  But the Pigeons’ time away from home can be deemed successful since they tend to struggle on the road.

So, when the team faces Club Puebla, they should ideally start the Leagues Cup well.  The Mexican side recently finished the Clausura of the Liga MX season in 17th place.  Before then, they ended the Apertura in 15th place.  This season, the team has only played three games thus far and has won once.  Therefore, with Puebla’s recent struggles, NYCFC should come away with a win.  To not do so will set them up for a likely disappointing Leagues Cup run.
