NYCFC vs Inter Miami CF: How to watch, time, and more of MLS Opening Day game | OneFootball

The wait is finally over!  New York City FC and the rest of Major League Soccer will begin the new season this weekend.  The Pigeons ended the 2024 campaign in a rough manner after they lost to the New York Red Bulls in the MLS Cup Playoffs.  As such, they will try to start the new season off well.

It will be difficult though.  The Bronx team will be away from home, and they have to face last year’s Supporters’ Shield winner Inter Miami CF.  With players like Lionel Messi and Luis Suárez starting for the Florida team, NYCFC will have a challenging start to the new season.

Yes, the teams shared the points in both matchups in 2024.  They almost lost the fixture at Yankee Stadium though.  Thankfully, James Sands picked the right time to score his first MLS goal to grab a point for the Boys in Blue.  This time though, he and a few other players are no longer with the team.  Sands is out on loan, although injured.  In addition, star Santiago Rodríguez is heading to Brazil, with an announcement expected very soon.

The Pigeons are also under new leadership.  Pascal Jansen is the new head coach, and he has made some changes to how the team plays, ideally for the better.  His tactics might not be a full 180 change, but players are still adjusting to his coaching.  This was seen in the preseason despite the 3-1-2 record.  Therefore, the match against Miami is intriguing, but it can also make the supporters nervous.

If NYCFC fans cannot watch or listen to the game, then they can follow along via MLS Soccer’s timeline and NYCFC’s X account.  The team also has a Bluesky account, so one will have to wait and see whether they post game updates there.

Final Notes

NYCFC will have a full week of rest under their belts since they played the last preseason game last Saturday.  Meanwhile, Miami played in the CONCACAF Champions Cup on Wednesday, so it will be interesting to see whether that impacts their play.  Truthfully, it probably will not.
