FC Bayern have certainty and Nicolas Jackson should now have it too. The purchase obligation agreed between the German record champions and Chelsea FC has effectively expired. This means that there is almost every indication that the 24-year-old striker will leave the club again next summer, as the clause would only apply if he played 40 competitive games of at least 45 minutes – a figure that Jackson cannot even begin to reach.
His loan deal, which was concluded on deadline day for 16.5 million euros, was intended as a stopgap solution from the outset. And now that his first few months at Säbener Straße are behind him, it is clear that the attacker has not lived up to the high expectations. Four goals from 14 competitive matches, mostly as a substitute, never with a real chance to get into rhythm – Jackson remained a project that could not get off to a clean start.
Lothar Matthäus recently spoke of Jackson appearing „like a foreign body“ in the Bayern game. Vincent Kompany countered, praising his work ethic and speaking of a „very quick integration“. But even the coach knows that in Munich, goals and presence in the penalty area define the value of a striker.

The calculation is simple: six appearances with sufficient playing time are currently on the books. A maximum of 33 would theoretically still be possible, but neither the load management nor the competitive situation nor the Africa Cup suggest that Jackson will even come close to the mark. In December and January, he will miss at least one competitive match for Senegal, possibly even up to four. Back in the autumn, Uli Hoeneß predicted almost casually: „He will only be really expensive if he makes 40 games – he never makes them!“ He was proved right.
This makes Jackson’s time at FC Bayern an episode that can be explained in sporting terms, but would hardly be financially justifiable. 65 million euros to buy? For a player who has not yet been able to play a leading role in Munich? Munich are taking the logical line: Jackson will probably be sent back to Stamford Bridge.
While Harry Kane is open to a contract extension, the focus has long been on the future when it comes to backup players, and one name in particular is in the spotlight: Fisnik Asllani from TSG Hoffenheim.
The 23-year-old Kosovo international has a profile that immediately aroused interest in Munich: robust, technically clean, a strong header, with movements that are strongly reminiscent of Robert Lewandowski. Six goals and three assists in 13 competitive matches underline his development. The fact that, according to BILD, he has a release clause of 30 million euros makes him even more attractive – especially in comparison to Jackson. No wonder Bayern see him as an option behind Kane.
The only catch is that Borussia Dortmund are also keeping a close eye on Asllani, meaning a potential transfer could once again turn into a duel between the two German heavyweights.
