Botola: Abdelhak Benchikha takes the reins at Ittihad Tanger!

Official: Abdelhak Benchikha appointed head coach of Ittihad Tanger!
Ittihad Tanger officially announced on Wednesday the appointment of Algerian coach Abdelhak Benchikha as head coach of their first team. The 62-year-old tactician succeeds Spaniard José Mel, who was dismissed following a string of disappointing results. The Moroccan club also clarified that the former coach will nonetheless retain a role within the club’s structure, serving as general sporting supervisor.
For Benchikha, it’s a return to familiar territory. The former USM Alger coach already led the Tangier side between 2015 and 2017. With extensive experience in the Moroccan top flight—including spells at Raja Casablanca, Difaâ Hassani El Jadida, and Moghreb Tétouan—the Algerian tactician is back in a league he knows inside out.
The challenge that awaits him, however, is a daunting one. After fifteen rounds of the Botola Pro, Ittihad Tanger are 12th in the standings with just 13 points. The club’s management now hopes that the experience and strong character of the Algerian coach will help revive a team that’s lost momentum and avoid a tense end to the season.
