Official: Atlético Madrid star joins Girona | OneFootball

Girona have this week announced a deal for a member of the attacking ranks at La Liga rivals Atlético Madrid.

The player in question? Thomas Lemar.

Former Monaco man Lemar had long been expected to be on the move this summer.

No longer part of the plans of boss Diego Simeone following another injury-ravaged campaign in 2024/25, the Frenchman is understood to have drawn interest from a number of Spanish clubs.

Rayo Vallecano and Celta Vigo are two such sides to have taken into consideration a loan swoop for Lemar with a view to next season.

As alluded to above, however, the 29-year-old has this week instead opted to take his talents to another of La Liga’s clubs.

As per a statement across the website and social media platforms of the aforementioned Girona:

‘Girona FC has reached an agreement with Atlético de Madrid for the loan of player Thomas Lemar until the end of the 2025-2026 season.’
