OGC Nice have confirmed the signing of Baptiste Santamaria (29) on loan from Ligue 1 rivals Stade Rennais.

Santamaria, who played 127 games for Rennes (four goals, six assists) since joining back in 2021, had been frozen out at the Breton club. Since the arrival of Jorge Sampaoli as manager, it has been made clear that he had no future with Les Rennais. In recent days, he had even been added to a newly created ‘loft’ at the club, alongside players such as Jota and Glen Kamara, with the midfielder forced towards the exit.

He has now left Rennes, joining Nice. The former France youth international has joined on loan until the end of the season. Les Aiglons have the option to make the loan permanent, come the end of the campaign. Foot Mercato understands that Rennes will continue to pay a part of Santamaria’s wage over the course of the loan.
