Having announced the signing of Joao Cancelo from Al Hilal earlier this week, FC Barcelona have now successfully registered him as a member of the squad in La Liga.
The 31-year-old right-back was signed on loan until the end of the season from Al Hilal, with there being no options for a permanent purchase.
While Barça are not entirely out of the woods yet, as far as their Financial Fair Play situation is concerned, Cancelo’s signing and registration have been facilitated by the long-term injury of Andreas Christensen.
Indeed, La Liga’s medical commission has accepted the defender’s long-term injury status, as he is out of action for at least four months due to a partial ACL tear, allowing Barcelona to use 80% of his salary to sign and register an emergency replacement – Cancelo in this case.

The Portuguese full-back previously spent the 2023/24 season on loan at Barcelona and was intent on returning to the club, which made his comeback possible in the ongoing transfer window, despite strong interest from Inter Milan.
Now, the former Manchester City defender’s registration has been completed without any hitch, as confirmed by the update on the La Liga official website.
Cancelo has also been included in the squad list for tonight’s Copa del Rey clash against Racing Santander and may well make his second debut for the Blaugrana.
As already confirmed by the club, the right-back will once again be wearing the No. 2 shirt he had donned during his previous loan spell under Xavi Hernandez.
