Ousmane Dembélé will miss the upcoming matches for Paris Saint-Germain as well as those for the French national team. Sidelined with a right thigh injury sustained on September 5 against Ukraine, the forward is expected to be out for around six weeks, according to medical tests conducted in Paris.

Ousmane Dembélé left the French national team camp after feeling muscle pain during the Ukraine-France match in Wroclaw. Coming on at halftime to replace Désiré Doué, who was also injured, the PSG player returned to the bench in the 81st minute, visibly hampered by discomfort at the back of his thigh.

An injury at the worst possible time

The French national team and Paris Saint-Germain officially announced on Saturday, September 6, the length of their star attacker's absence following medical examinations conducted earlier that day.

"After coming on at halftime in Ukraine-France (0-2) to replace Désiré Doué, who suffered a calf injury, Ousmane Dembélé was also forced to leave the field in the 81st minute due to pain in his right hamstring. Ousmane Dembélé has a tear in his right hamstring, Désiré Doué a tear of the right soleus muscle. Both have been released back to their clubs," announced the FFF.

A costly absence for PSG

Back in Paris, Ousmane Dembélé underwent an MRI which confirmed the results from the French Football Federation.

"Forced off with an injury during the Ukraine - France match on Friday, Ousmane Dembélé is suffering from a severe lesion of the right hamstring. His absence is estimated at around six weeks. Also injured in that match, Désiré Doué has a calf injury and is expected to be sidelined for about four weeks," PSG confirmed.

PSG will have to do without their winger for a string of crucial matches, both domestically and in Europe. Ousmane will notably miss the opening rounds of the new Champions League campaign against Atalanta Bergamo and potentially the clash against FC Barcelona. The 28-year-old will also be absent for the Classique against Olympique de Marseille in Ligue 1. His availability for the next French national team call-up in October remains uncertain, particularly for matches against Azerbaijan and Iceland.
