Atalanta announced that director of sport Tony D’Amico has left by mutual consent after four years, clearing the way for him to take the Roma role. Cristiano Giuntoli will replace him in Bergamo.
The reshuffle arrives in a summer when Serie A is seeing movement not only among players and coaches but also in the boardroom. His stint included Atalanta’s Europa League triumph, and he had been eager for a new adventure.
Although he had also been linked with Milan, the deal was already in place for Roma, where he will reunite with former Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini.
D’Amico’s role will be taken by ex-Juventus and Napoli director Giuntoli, who is set to work with incoming coach Maurizio Sarri.
Sarri has also ended his Lazio contract by mutual consent after just one season.
