Two of Manchester United’s brightest talents — Harry Amass and Tyler Fredricson have been rewarded for their impressive performances and have scooped two of the club’s most prestigious awards.

The left-back was named the Jimmy Murphy Young Player of the Year, while the centre-back earned the Denzil Haroun Reserve-Team Player of the Year award.

The 18-year-old has had quite the season, from being overlooked by former manager Erik ten Hag at the start of the season to starting four of the last five Premier League games under Ruben Amorim.

In fact, the ex-Watford starlet won a treble for the U18s in his first season at the club and could follow it up with a European trophy in his debut season as a first-team star!

Amass wins Young POTY

He follows in the footsteps of first team regulars Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho in scooping the award. United’s academy director Nick Cox was effusive in his praise for the England U18 international.

“We’re delighted to recognise Harry’s hard work and achievements with this award. Since joining the club, he’s shown an ability to adapt, settle into a new environment and progress as a person and a player. Harry had an outstanding first season with the club, and was already enjoying time around the first team in 2023/24 as a result.

“Harry has represented the Under-18s in the league and FA Youth Cup this season, enjoyed UEFA Youth League experience at Old Trafford and in the Netherlands with the Under-19s, and played for the Under-21s in the league and EFL Trophy. These experiences, and the work done by the Professional Development Phase staff, helped him prepare for the opportunity when it came, and we’ve been delighted to see the trust placed in Harry by Ruben Amorim and his staff.”

As for Fredricson, he has been the epitome of perseverance and that has finally borne fruit this term, starting twice in the Premier League under Amorim.

Injuries have severely halted his progress, and from being on the bench in Erik ten Hag’s first season, the 20-year-old has had to wait for more than two years for his latest chance and fair to say, he has grabbed them with both hands.

Fredricson scoops Reserve POTY

Academy coaches cannot stop raving about his football intelligence and clearly, Amorim has liked what he has seen which explains the starts.

Cox hailed the Englishman’s patience and determination, and hoped for more to come from the Carrington graduate in the years to come.

“Tyler has shown fantastic qualities of perseverance, determination and patience to earn first-team opportunities this season.

“His performances at Under-21s level saw him become a part of the senior training group, like many of our players this season. We’re very proud of how our players have conducted themselves, but especially pleased when they show enough in training to earn the manager’s trust, as Tyler has done.”

Both will be eager to earn more minutes in the remaining two league games while hoping to make a case for inclusion in the big one — the Europa League final against Tottenham Hotspur on May 21 in Bilbao.
