Lazio capped off their hectic winter transfer window by parting ways with Matias Vecino, who has become a new Celta Vigo player.
While the last five weeks witnessed some fireworks at Formello, the Mercato’s deadline day was relatively quiet, with little movement registered. The only new signing announced on Monday was 16-year-old Slovenian defender Blaz Kovac, who joined the club’s youth ranks.

On the other hand, Tijjani Noslin, Reda Belahyane, and Nuno Tavares all ended up staying despite being linked to the exit door, though a departure cannot be completely ruled out, as the transfer market remains open in some countries, including Turkiye. Therefore, Besiktas can still technically sign Tavares until February 6.
Before the end of the day, Lazio announced on their official website a departure that had been in the air over the past 24 hours or so, confirming that Vecino has joined Celta Vigo on a permanent basis.
SS Lazio can confirm Matias Vecino has completed a permanent transfer to Real Club Celta de Vigo SAD, subject to international clearance. Vecino departs the Olimpico having made 128 appearances and scored 13 goals: the midfielder arrived at the club in the summer of 2022. Everybody at the club would like to thank Matias for his contributions and wish him all the best for the future.
Vecino has been plying his trade in Italian football since joining Fiorentina in January 2013. He went on to represent Cagliari, Empoli, and Inter Milan before signing for Lazio as a free agent in the summer of 2022. At the end of last season, the Uruguayan penned a new one-year contract with an option for a second, but the two parties decided it was best to cut their ties in the middle of the campaign.
