Mainz 05 have worked quickly to seal the signing of Union Berlin attacker Benedict Hollerbach. The 24-year-old moves to the Rheinhessen on a four-year-deal valid through 2029. Both Bundesliga clubs have agreed not to divulge the transfer fee. Previous reports suggested a fee in the €7.5m range.
The 2025/26 Bundesliga Europa League representatives have completed two captures this weekend. Defensive prospect Konstantin Schopp was unveiled yesterday. Schopp joined the Nullfünfter on a free. Hollerbach constitutes one of Mainz’s more expensive ever purchases.
“We are very pleased to have signed Benedict,” Mainz sporting director Nico Bungert noted in a club statement. “His style of play fits perfectly with Mainz’s intense and courageous style of football. He is one of the most dynamic and hardest-working professionals in the Bundesliga and can play in various attacking positions. At Union, he has developed tremendously both on and off the pitch over the past two years and has matured into a leader.“
”I am very much looking forward to the new sporting challenge in Mainz,” the player himself added. “I’m eager to repaying the trust that which has been placed in me. Mainz 05 has given me a very clear sporting perspective in which I can continue to develop as a footballer and contribute my strengths. I feel that I fit perfectly into my new team and am looking forward to playing intense and courageous soccer with them.”
