Real Madrid have issued an official statement confirming the nature of superstar Kylian Mbappe’s injury and what lies ahead for him in terms of treatment and recovery.
The French forward missed the team’s last game against Benfica due to a knee issue that had been plaguing him since late December. Ruled out against Getafe tonight, he will also miss the matches versus Celta Vigo and Manchester City (first leg Ro16).
Earlier today, reports indicated that Mbappe had been unhappy with Real Madrid medical department’s handling of the injury and he had flown to France for second opinion.
Now, the club have issued a statement confirming that the 27-year-old did undergo tests in Paris.
In addition, Real Madrid also affirm that Mbappe will continue on the conservative treatment he is receiving, dismissing the possibility of surgery, as was suggested in media recently.
“Following tests carried out on our player Kylian Mbappe by French medical specialists, under the supervision of Real Madrid’s Medical Services, the diagnosis of a sprain in his left knee has been confirmed, as well as the suitability of the conservative treatment he is currently undergoing. His progress will be monitored.”
While there is no update about when he might return, there is hope that he could make it back in time for the second leg of the Champions League Round of 16 against Manchester City.
