Real Madrid midfielder and stand-in captain Federico Valverde has suffered a muscle injury, the club have confirmed in an official statement.
“Following tests carried out today on our player Fede Valverde by the Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with a semimembranosus muscle injury in his right leg. His recovery will be monitored,” the statement read.
Valverde, who had ended the Liverpool clash with discomfort, was fit to play against Rayo Vallecano on Sunday.
However, he felt some discomfort towards the final stages of the match and had to be taken off as a result, with manager Xabi Alonso confirming that the issue was not the same as the Uruguayan’s problem after the Anfield defeat.
Now, the Merengues have confirmed a new muscle injury for the 27-year-old midfielder, who has filled in as captain and right-back in Dani Carvajal’s absence.
While the statement from Real Madrid does not specify a recovery period, journalist Arancha Rodriguez reports that Valverde will be out for ten days.
It means that the Spanish capital giants can recover their mainstay in time for their next game against Elche, although he will not travel with the Uruguayan national team in the international break.
