Official: Real Madrid star called up for World Cup | OneFootball

Another member of the first-team ranks at La Liga giants Real Madrid has on Monday received the call for the upcoming World Cup.

The player in question? David Alaba.

Stopper Alaba is for his part in the midst of what has been another challenging campaign in Spain’s capital.

Hampered by injuries and competition for places, the former Bayern Munich standout has been afforded just four La Liga starts all told.

As alluded to above, though, such woes have not proven enough for Alaba to be overlooked by his country for this summer’s World Cup.

Austria’s travelling party for the biggest showpiece in international football was officially unveiled on Monday.

And Alaba, still considered a key figure in the dressing room and on the pitch alike, was front and centre in Ralf Rangnick’s squad.

The 33-year-old joins the likes of Elche star David Affengruber, Borussia Dortmund’s Marcel Sabitzer and veteran frontman Marko Arnautović in Austria’s ranks.
