Olympique de Marseille have continued their January clear-out, confirming the departures of Ruben Blanco and Pol Lirola, with both players leaving the club on free transfers.
Arriving at Olympique de Marseille in the summer of 2022 on loan from Celta Vigo, Ruben Blanco never managed to establish himself as a long-term solution in goal at the Vélodrome.
Despite being under contract until 2027, the 30-year-old goalkeeper has now been released, with the Spaniard confirming his departure via his personal social media channels. Used sparingly during his time in Provence, Blanco’s exit further reduces Marseille’s wage bill as the club continue reshaping their squad.
Marseille have also confirmed the definitive departure of Pol Lirola, who has joined Hellas Verona on a contract running until the end of the season. Signed initially on loan in January 2021 before completing a permanent move that reportedly cost €13m, Lirola leaves without generating a transfer fee. Over the course of his OM career, the 28-year-old made 95 appearances, scoring four goals and providing eight assists.GFFN | George Boxall
