Serge Gnabry’s contract extension has been on the cards for weeks, but now it’s official
FC Bayern confirmed on Thursday that the 30-year-old attacking player has extended his expiring contract early until 2028, sending a clear signal in the record champions‘ squad planning and tying a long-standing key player to the club beyond the current season
Gnabry has been one of the defining figures at Säbener Straße for years. Sporting Director Max Eberl clearly underlined the importance of the international. Gnabry has grown with FC Bayern, has won everything with the club and yet always wants more. It is precisely this ambition that makes him a role model, both on the pitch and in the dressing room. For Eberl, it is clear that Gnabry is emblematic of FC Bayern

Sporting director Christoph Freund also emphasized why the club made such a clear decision to extend his contract. Gnabry enriches the attacking play with his versatility, speed, finishing ability and ball security. His personality also plays a key role, however. Gnabry occupies an important position within the team and his character is a factor in the team’s structure
This mixture of sporting quality and character was the decisive factor for those responsible to extend the contract at an early stage. Gnabry is still a permanent fixture under Vincent Kompany and can be deployed both on the wings and in more central roles
The player himself expressed his happiness with the decision. Gnabry explained that the talks with the club had been positive throughout. At the start of his time in Munich, he could hardly have imagined that he would end up at FC Bayern for over ten years at the end of his new contract. The decisive factor for him to extend his contract was not just sporting reasons, but the overall package of team, coaching team, club, fans, city and environment. Gnabry emphasised that FC Bayern had long since become home for him
Since moving to Munich, the Stuttgart native has developed into one of the most successful players of his generation at the record champions. In 311 competitive matches, he has scored 100 goals and assisted a further 69. His collection of titles includes six German championships, two DFB Cup wins, the Champions League, the Club World Cup and several Super Cups. Gnabry has also been a fixture in the national team for years
With the extension until 2028, Bayern are not only securing sporting quality, but also experience and identification – an important building block for the coming years.
