Yoane Wissa is now officially a Newcastle United player. The Congolese striker has put pen to paper on a long-term contract with the Magpies in the final hours of this summer transfer window. Brentford FC lose the Villeneuve-Saint-Georges native, who becomes Newcastle’s sixth signing of the summer.

As reported on the morning of Monday, September 1, Yoane Wissa won his tug-of-war with the Bees, which had lasted several weeks. Newcastle United made his signing official right at the close of the window, as a replacement for Alexander Isak, who transferred to Liverpool at the same time. After several attempts, the Magpies finally secured Wissa’s transfer for a total fee of €63 million, including bonuses.

"Newcastle United confirms the deadline day signing of striker Yoane Wissa from Brentford for an undisclosed fee, subject to Premier League approval. Aged 28, born in France and representing the Democratic Republic of Congo internationally, he has signed a long-term contract and becomes the sixth summer addition at St. James' Park," the club announced.

The 28-year-old striker played 149 matches for Brentford, scoring a total of 49 goals across all competitions. Last season, he hit his best form yet, netting 19 times in the Premier League.

"I’m really happy to be here and to sign for one of the biggest clubs in the Premier League. I’m really, really looking forward to wearing the black and white shirt. I have dreams, I believe in myself, and now I’m going to give my all to make them come true. I can’t wait to get started," Wissa said at the signing.
