St. Pauli’s reported on capture of Japanese striker Taichi Hara has been officially confirmed. The 26-year-old moves to Hamburg’s Kiezkicker on a free transfer from J-League outfit Kyoto Sanga. Terms of the twice-capped Japanese international’s new FCSP contract were not divulged.

Statements on Taichi Hara’s signing

With his skills, Taichi embodies a type of player we haven’t had in our squad before,” FCSP sporting director Andreas Bornemann noted in a club statement. “He can be used as a classic target player, but also has the technical skills to get involved in combination play. That gives our game additional flexibility. We are confident that his experience in Europe will help him acclimatize quickly with us.”

At his previous stations, Taichi has already proven that he can be dangerous in front of goal and also has a good eye for his teammates,” head coach Alexander Blessin added. “He is well trained in football and, thanks to his height, is also a factor in offensive and defensive set pieces. In addition, he is very team-oriented and doesn’t shy away from hard work when defending.

I had convincing talks with club officials,” Hara himself added. “And I’m convinced I can aid the team with my strengths.
