It was a mixed night at the World Cup for OL players past and present, with Pavel Sulc eliminated and Brazil’s ex-Lyon trio advancing.

Pavel Sulc, OL’s top scorer in 2025-2026, started on the right for the Czech Republic against Mexico overnight and played the full match, but they lost 3-0 despite having the better of the first half.

The result eliminated the Czech Republic, who finished bottom of Group A with one point, earned in a 1-1 draw with South Africa. Sulc is now on leave to recover. He could take three weeks off and rejoin OL for the start of their Bavaria camp on 19 July.

Three former Lyon players featured as Brazil beat Scotland 3-0. Bruno Guimarães and Lucas Paqueta started, Guimarães completed the match, while Paqueta went off in the 66th minute with the game already secure.

Endrick made his 19th appearance, replacing Rayan in the 82nd minute. Brazil top their group and are through to the last 16, where they could face Japan.

Next up for Lyon representation are France’s Malo Gusto, Rayan Cherki and Bradley Barcola against Norway on Friday at 21:00, with Gusto a possible starter. Moussa Niakhaté is also due to play for Senegal against Iraq.
