Olympique Lyonnais have cut their wage bill by about 50 per cent, yet captain Corentin Tolisso and coach Paulo Fonseca remain the club’s top earners.
Under DNCG and UEFA constraints, Lyon moved away from past generosity, with high-paid exits including Alexandre Lacazette, Rayan Cherki, Nemanja Matic and Jordan Veretout. The reset, driven by president Michele Kang and CEO Michael Gerlinger, came as Textor-era recruits Moussa Niakhaté, Orel Mangala, Ernest Nuamah and Ainsley Maitland-Niles stayed near the upper bracket. According to L’Équipe, salary estimates reflect that shift.
Tolisso is the best paid on an estimated €450,000 gross per month. He is followed by Niakhaté and Mangala at about €300,000, then Nuamah and Maitland-Niles at €250,000.
Tagliafico, Tessmann, Endrick and Abner are on €200,000 or more, with Real Madrid covering half of Endrick’s salary. His loan is seen as costly, as he will not reach the 25 matches envisaged after exits from the Coupe de France and Europa League, and it could cost Lyon €200,000 if he features in the final seven games.
Most other recruits are around €100,000, with Morton on €160,000, and the squad’s average gross monthly salary is estimated at €110,000. Fonseca, hired by John Textor in January 2025, is estimated at €350,000 per month, Ligue 1’s second-highest behind Luis Enrique on €1,000,000 and ahead of Habib Beye on €230,000, Bruno Genesio on €220,000 and Pierre Sage on €100,000.
