France opened the 2026 World Cup year with a prestigious victory – and two FC Bayern players were particularly in the spotlight. Michael Olise and Dayot Upamecano delivered a game with light and shade in the 2:1 test match victory against Brazil
An intense duel between two soccer giants unfolded in front of over 60,000 spectators at Foxborough, and from Munich’s point of view, the roles were clearly divided: while Olise was the decisive factor, Upamecano had a bitter evening
Michael Olise once again confirmed his outstanding form and showed why he is currently one of the most dangerous attacking players in Europe
The Bayern star was active right from the start, constantly looking to get forward and providing creative moments in the French side’s play. His highlight came in the second half, when he played a precise pass to set up Hugo Ekitike to make it 2-0. Kylian Mbappe put the 2018 world champions 1-0 ahead in the 32nd minute
Olise once again underlined his enormous influence in attacking play – a quality that he also brings to the pitch week in, week out at FC Bayern

It was a completely different story for Dayot Upamecano, who also started in the starting eleven but had to leave the pitch early
The 26-year-old was shown the red card in the 55th minute after an emergency brake, putting his team in a difficult situation
Despite being outnumbered, France did not lose their composure and, on the contrary, Ekitike increased their lead to 2:0 just a few minutes after being sent off – again with the help of Olise
The French then defended their lead with great discipline, even though Brazil were able to reduce the deficit once more through Bremer (76′)
From FC Bayern’s point of view, the game provided mixed results: while Olise impressively confirmed his top form and shone as a key player, Upamecano is likely to look back on the scene with a critical eye after his sending-off.
