Jean-Philippe Mateta will not undergo knee surgery, Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner has confirmed, speaking before Wednesday’s Premier League match with Burnley.

According to NY Times, Mateta has managed the issue since November, and Palace left him out of last month’s FA Cup third round defeat at Macclesfield because of the artificial pitch.

Concerns over the knee, among other factors, led AC Milan to abandon a move on deadline day.

After a fourth medical opinion and talks between all parties, Glasner said several specialists agreed the 28-year-old could manage the problem without surgery.

He cautioned that Mateta will miss periods and could not give a timeline of two, three or four weeks. Rehabilitation will take place at the club’s training ground.

Avoiding surgery keeps alive, for now, the Frenchman’s hope of making France’s squad for this summer’s World Cup in the U.S., Canada and Mexico.

Glasner said clarity is important, noting Mateta remains a Palace player at least until summer, and he urged supporters to back him.
