Oliver Kahn has urged patience amid the buzz around Jürgen Klopp’s appointment as Germany head coach, warning the issues run deeper than one change.

“Personally, I don’t think it’s as simple as many people imagine,” he told BR at a charity golf tournament. “I think the problems run much deeper.”

Klopp was officially appointed on Friday, tasked with reviving the national team after several disappointing tournaments. His introductory press conference stirred fresh optimism among supporters.

Kahn said the German Football Association must first resolve fundamental questions on development and identity. “What kind of players do we want to develop in the coming years? What kind of players do we want to have in general? How do we want to play football?”

Despite his caution, Kahn believes Klopp can have a major influence over time. “He is a very experienced man who can certainly achieve a great deal,” said the former Bayern Munich goalkeeper, who later served as the club’s CEO.

Klopp’s first match in charge is scheduled for September, when Germany travel to the Netherlands in the UEFA Nations League.
