Oliver Skipp’s Leicester City future could shift after Hayden Hackney’s move to Everton, with Middlesbrough weighing up midfield reinforcements. The Telegraph reported that Boro had considered Skipp in the wake of Hackney’s exit.
Hackney’s transfer was announced on Thursday, the 24-year-old signing a five-year deal with the Premier League club. The sale is around £25m, including £17m up front.
Boro are admirers of Skipp and could act this summer, though he is viewed more as an addition to Kim Hellberg’s No 6 options than a like-for-like replacement.
Skipp, 25, has three years left on his Leicester contract after arriving from Tottenham in 2024. City paid about £20m and will have to accept a loss if they sell.
Leicester previously set a £15m asking price, a figure Middlesbrough are not minded to meet.
It remains unclear what Boro would be willing to pay, but the Hackney windfall could facilitate a move if they firm up interest. Leicester will also be wary of deterring suitors with a hefty valuation, particularly given Skipp’s back-to-back relegations.
