Despite French football's financial strain, OM are still paying big, helped by a Champions League return but not only. According to L'Équipe, salaries remain high.

Marseille now carry a record payroll and the league's second largest behind Paris Saint-Germain, although Monaco's numbers are skewed by the absence of income tax. To land targets, offers have at times been multiplied, sometimes two to fourfold.

The average monthly gross sits around €300,000, up from €250,000 in 2024-25, despite the departures of high earners Adrien Rabiot (€500,000), Ismaël Bennacer (€450,000) and Valentin Rongier (€330,000). Only 19-year-old Tadjidine Mmadi has renewed, on €15,000 to €20,000.

Six recent recruits populate the top bracket. P.-E. Höjbjerg is on €500,000, G. Kondogbia and M. Greenwood on €450,000, N. Aguerd on €400,000, with P.-E. Aubameyang, L. Balerdi, B. Pavard and I. Paixao at €350,000. Pavard is on loan from Inter, after concessions Inter pay part of his €500,000 package and OM cover the rest.

F. Medina and Q. Timber are at €320,000. Aguerd does not benefit from France's impatriation scheme, and Medina joined from Lens on a loan with obligation to buy and a new, higher deal. Paixao's smoothed signing bonus has almost tripled his pay, while Angel Gomes' €400,000 is covered by Wolverhampton.

Longer contracts underline OM's reliance on Champions League income, and a figure close to the shareholder said late last year that revenue growth has outpaced the rise in wages. The club also avoided Roberto De Zerbi's final €6.6 million gross year, replacing him with Habib Beye on €2.76 million.
