The LA Galaxy had a much better season in 2022 than they are having now. Three years ago, the team wrapped up the year in MLS with a record of 14-8-12. Unlike Wednesday night against the Seattle Sounders in the 2025 Leagues Cup semifinals, the LA Galaxy won on August 28, 2022.
A mark like that was good enough to earn the fourth seed in the 2022 MLS Western Conference standings. The LA Galaxy beat out Nashville SC as both teams finished with 50 points in the conference.
Every win counts as every game matters in MLS. For on this day in 2022, the Los Angeles Galaxy beat the New England Revolution on the road by a slim margin.

A pair of early goals from the Los Angeles Galaxy in the first half gave the team a lead as they never looked back. In fact, the match appeared as if it were going to be a shutout victory for the visitors.
Daniel Aguirre scored in the 4th minute of the game. A well-placed pass from Chicharito earned him the assist.
Nine minutes later, Javier Hernandez found the back of the net, too. Riqui Puig recorded the assist.
In a rare 5-3-2 formation from the LA Galaxy, the three midfielders were Puig and Aguirre (on the outsides) and Gaston Brugman in between them.
Jonathan Bond was the keeper for the Galaxy in this game. He recorded six saves before allowing the only Revolution goal. Carles Gil ended the shutout in the 82nd minute for New England.

After the win against the New England Revolution, the Los Angeles finished the 2022 MLS regular season unbeaten in seven of their last eight games. The bad 3-0 loss on the road against the Vancouver Whitecaps was their only loss the rest of the season.
The LA Galaxy beat Nashville SC in the first round of the playoffs, 1-0. The Galaxy benefited from home-field advantage in the opening round. Julián Araujo had the game's only goal.

In the second round, the Los Angeles Galaxy played their cross-city rival, LAFC. Goals from Samuel Grandsir and Dejan Joveljic weren't enough.
Denis Bouanga had two goals for LAFC. However, it was Cristian Arango's score during stoppage time that led to LA Galaxy's last-minute defeat.
LAFC went on to win the 2022 MLS Cup Finals with John McCarthy in goal for them. The now-former LA Galaxy keeper earned the Most Valuable Player Award in the championship game.
