Manuel Akanji left Manchester City last summer to join Inter Milan on loan for the 2025-26 season. Akanji’s loan move included an option for the Serie A giants to sign the Swiss international permanently if a series of triggers were met. It has now been reported that Inter Milan have completed a permanent move to sign Manuel Akanji from City. It also appears that another City defender could join him in Serie A next season.
Simon Bajkowski has reported for the Manchester Evening News that Inter Milan have completed the signing of Manuel Akanji from Manchester City for £13 million. Furthermore, Bajkowski reports that the triggers in Akanji’s loan move to Inter have been met, which means that the Serie A giants have now signed the versatile defender. Akanji has been a vital player at the back for Inter Milan this season, and he has been a huge contributor for an Inter Milan side that clinched this season’s Serie A title recently.
It was pleasing to see that Manuel Akanji has performed so well for Inter Milan this season. Akanji arrived at City from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2022, and the Swiss defender became an important player for Pep Guardiola’s side. Akanji was vital to City’s treble success in the 2022-23 season. Manuel Akanji didn’t get the headlines that some of his more fancied teammates received, but his contribution to City was immense. He also helped Pep Guardiola’s side win a fourth consecutive Premier League title in the 2023-24 season. Akanji’s role was pivotal in his team creating history.
Manuel Akanji also pushed through injury last season as his team struggled. Akanji’s efforts last season speak volumes about his character, which has been forgotten at times. All told, it is great to see Akanji having success with Inter Milan and his permanent move to the Serie A giants is a fitting reward for the Swiss international.
Another warrior at the back for Manchester City has been Nathan Ake. The Dutch international has been a wall at the back since he arrived at City from Bournemouth. However, it does seem that Ake’s time at Manchester City may be coming to an end. It has now be reported that a host of Serie A sides have an interest in signing Ake this summer.
Voetbal International has reported that Nathan Ake will leave Manchester City this summer. Furthermore, it is reported that a host of Serie A clubs have an interest in signing Ake. AS Roma, Juventus and AC Milan are named as teams that are credited with an interest in signing Ake.
A move to Serie A could be ideal for Nathan Ake. Ake can still play at the highest level. His recent performance in Manchester City’s 2-0 Carabao Cup final win over Arsenal speaks to this fact. Also, like Ake seems suited to Serie A which isn’t as physically intense as the Premier League. A move to Serie A was ideal for Manuel Akanji, and it would be no surprise to see Ake make a similar move and succeed in Italy.
