English football journalist insists that signing Paris Saint-Germain star Nuno Mendes would be a HUGE coup for Manchester United.

The 22-year-old rose to prominence during his time at Sporting CP, getting his big breakthrough under the guidance of Ruben Amorim. His exploits in Lisbon earned him a move to PSG for circa €45 million in the summer of 2021, and he swiftly cemented himself as a regular starter at Le Parc des Princes. The Portugal international has now established himself as one of the best left-backs in the world.

But while the Ligue 1 champions are keen to maintain his services for many years to come, they have recently been dealt a blow with the player refusing to sign a contract extension.

With his current deal expiring in June 2026, PSG are slowly losing their leverage on the full-back’s future, thus opening the door for Man Utd who are desperate for reinforcement on the left flank, especially amidst Luke Shaw’s never-ending injury ordeal.

Therefore, the Red Devils are considered among the favourites to prevail in the race for Mendes, as Amorim’s presence in Carrington could tip the scale in favour of the Premier League giants.

For his part, football journalist Sam Tighe believes signing the Portuguese left-back would be one of the best deals ever.

“This would be one of the biggest coups of all time if Manchester United in their current predicament were able to get Nuno Mendes,” he told the Transfer Talk Podcast (via Sky Sports).

“There is a genuine case that he is the best left back in the world – He is absolutely top five, almost certainly top three WITH Alphonso Davies and Josko Gvardio.

“He is unbelievably good and If Man United could sign him, what a mood changer. He’s also played 47 times under Ruben Amorim.”
